Substitute Teaching

Lately I have been spending alot of time in other teachers' classrooms as a substitute teacher. Something or someone makes me laugh every single day and I am always on my toes waiting for what the students might throw at me next. I have decided to share some of these memorable moments with my readers beginning with today's classroom. Since the students will need to remain anonymous I will label them alphabetically and try to leave out important details that would clue you in to my location. With that said... Today was my second day in the same classroom so the students were expecting me. As I was walking to the classroom before the start of class I met one of the students in the hallway. Friend 'A' put his arms around me to give me a hug and tell me how pretty I was today (gotta love the little ones.) I asked Friend 'A' if we were going to have a good day today and he replied while gesturing to my shoes "with the way you are dressed, I think yes." I love that elementary students are easily impressed by high heels and sparkly necklaces! To prove my point here a few more wardrobe comments from today. Later in the day as the class was walking from the restroom back to the class one of the students was galloping instead of walking. I told the student that we need to use quiet feet in the hallway to which they replied "you have the loud feet. Your shoes go click, click, click." Touche I thought, high heels are loud! After arriving back in the classroom we began lining up for lunch time. One of the boys began playing with my necklace and asked me if it was made of real diamonds. I informed him that the necklace was plastic and if it were made of diamonds I would be at home eating chocolates rather than working. He paused for a moment as if to think and then informed me "rich people can work too, besides if you don't have a job you have to go to prison." I guess I will continue to work then :)
